Heatmap & Navigation Clicks

This is the main panel in Details for viewing the desktop click heatmap of a page. It consists of a control panel above the iframe and a live page preview with click points overlaid.

What You See

  1. Top Control Panel (“panel-above-iframe”)
    • Three color selectors for different click types:
      • Click – regular clicks on elements.
      • Navigation – clicks that trigger navigation or page changes.
      • CTA – high-intent actions (form submissions, sign-ups, orders, add-to-cart).
    • Each type has a color swatch, a hidden input for storing the value, and a tooltip.
    • A Save button stores your color preferences (secured with a nonce).
  2. Preview in an Iframe
    • Loads the actual page (desktop layout) inside an <iframe>.
    • Click points are overlaid directly on the page content.
    • The iframe height is extended to cover the full scrollable length of the page.

The mobile version is handled by a separate container: wpmc-heatmap-container-mobile with its own iframe and top control panel.

How to Use

  1. Open Heatmap and Behavior Details for the desired page.
  2. Switch to the Heatmap & Navigation Clicks tab (data-tab="wpmc-heatmap-container").
  3. Adjust the click point colors for Click, Navigation, and CTA types in the top panel, then click Save.
  4. Scroll through the iframe to review click patterns across the entire page.
  5. For comparison, open the 📱 Mobile Heatmap tab to see how the same page performs on mobile devices.

Analysis Tips

  • Hot zones (clusters of points) = areas of strong user interest. Make sure key CTAs are placed nearby.
  • Navigation clicks show whether users follow the intended paths.
  • CTA clicks provide a quick check on the visibility and appeal of key actions (submit, add to cart, etc.).
  • If a button gets few clicks despite looking important, check its position, contrast, and wording.

Common Questions

  • Why are the points slightly misaligned?
This can happen due to caching or dynamically loaded elements. Reload the Details page or temporarily disable aggressive caching for more accurate alignment.
  • Why are there no points at all?
No clicks were recorded for the selected date range, or tracking for this post type is disabled in Settings.
