The Referral Sources tab shows where your visitors came from before arriving at the selected page. It helps you understand which channels drive traffic and how users navigate to your site.
What You See
The main content is a table listing all referring URLs, along with visit statistics:
| Source URL | Total Views ↓ | Unique Users |
|---|---|---|
| The website address or domain that sent traffic to your page. | The total number of times this source referred a visit. | The number of distinct users who came from this source. |
How It Works
- The plugin collects the
HTTP_REFERERvalue for each visit, along with its timestamp and associated page. - Referrals are grouped by exact URL for accuracy.
- Only visits within the selected date range are included in the table (date filters from the top of the Details view apply here too).
- Data updates automatically as new visitors arrive, provided tracking is enabled.
How to Use
- Open Heatmap and Behavior Details for a page.
- Click on the Referral Sources tab.
- Review the list to see which websites, search engines, or social media platforms are sending traffic.
- Click on a source URL to open it in a new browser tab for further investigation.
Analysis Tips
- High-Value Sources: If a source has both high total views and high unique users, consider building stronger relationships or campaigns targeting it.
- Low-Volume but High-Conversion Sources: Even if a source sends fewer visitors, they might have better engagement or conversions—worth special attention.
- Spam or Irrelevant Referrals: If you see suspicious or irrelevant domains, you can use security tools or referrer filtering in your site to block them.
Related Actions
- Date Range Filter: Adjust the filter at the top of the Details page to analyze different time periods.
- Data Cleaning: If needed, use the Cleaning tab in the admin to remove outdated referral data.
